GLAZE 4 COLORS

Rose: Alizarin Crimson

Stem and leaf: Alizarin Crimson mixed with Sap Green

Cast shadow: Place a light glaze of Permanent Rose, Alizarin Blue Lake and Sap Green in separate areas and blend gently

Use Mixtures for Tiny Studies

When you have a tiny area to paint, use a transparent mixture so it will add value with less work.

5 Glaze 5: Adding Details

This glaze will make the contrast between the light and dark crevices really pop. Remember to glaze only a small area to allow the previous glaze to show.

Values: Keep this value in the crevice and the center of the rose. Glaze 5 is a good time to begin some details. I also changed the shape of the cast shadow on the leaf because it felt too one-sided.

Edges: Clean up your edges each time you glaze. For crisp edges, lay the paint in different patterns. Try to keep enough paint on your brush to cover the texture of the board.

Details: Roses have veins in their petals that may show up in certain light. Paint on a few veins where the light makes them show up on the top petal and soften their edges.
